ESSEX, Md. (AP) -- Baltimore County police say a woman is dead after being hit by a truck while standing on a highway.

Police say 60-year-old Dianna Rae Brooks was struck about 7 p.m. Saturday on Pulaski Highway and Holly Drive in Essex.

A preliminary investigation determined that she was standing on eastbound Pulaski Highway when she was hit by a pickup truck. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and Brooks was pronounced dead while being taken to Franklin Square Hospital.

Police say the death is under investigation.
