Brian Benway, charged with First and Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment and Impersonating a Police Officer in Anne Arundel County
LINTHICUM, Md. (WUSA) -- Anne Arundel County police say a man is charged with assault and impersonating a police officer after an incident Wednesday night in Linthicum.
According to police, at approximately 5:25 p.m., officers responded to Cab Connection in the 600 block of Hammonds Ferry Road North in Linthicum for a report of a police impersonator. A representative told them a man in a Pontiac G6 who claimed to be a police officer followed a driver on Ritchie Highway after a disagreement about a possible traffic violation. The man followed the driver to the MVA parking lot in the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway South. The man then boxed in the taxi driver's car to make him pull over his vehicle. The man then got out of his Pontiac and confronted the taxi cab driver.
The man claimed he was a police officer and wore a jacket with the word "Police" on the back. He then struck the hood of the taxi cab with his fist before fleeing.
Officers found the suspect, 48-year-old Bryan Edward Benway, at his home in Baltimore. They also found out that he was not a police officer, and took him into custody.
Benway is charged with First and Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment and Impersonating a Police Officer.
