Allen Park, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Lions announced on Friday that
running back Jahvid Best will remain on the reserve/physically unable to
perform list for the remainder of the 2012 season.
Best was limited to six games in 2011 due to concussion problems. The
California product was put on the PUP list prior to the start of this season.
"There has been subsequent evaluation and consultation regarding Jahvid since
our last update (October 15)," Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said in a
statement Friday. "As has been the case throughout, we have deferred to the
medical experts and support their current recommendation that Jahvid not
return to the field this season.
"Jahvid's approach to this situation and his adherence to the process and
protocol have been exemplary," Mayhew continued. "No one has worked harder or
shown more dedication than Jahvid has over the past year."
"As disappointing as this decision is for us and Jahvid, we do believe it is
in his long-term best interest."
A 2010 first-round draft pick of the Lions, Best has rushed for 945 yards and
six touchdowns in 22 career games.
