CORNING, Iowa (KCCI/CBS) -- Each spring, during six weeks of sacrifice, millions give up cigarettes, sweets, or soda.
But inside the Adams Free Press, the editor J. Wilson is going all in. A few years ago, he was reading about Franciscan monks: "The story goes they sustained themselves for the duration of lent on this beer."
It's a special carb-filled recipe he's home-brewing.
"I'll come to work and have my pint," he said. "I suppose 3 o'clock, I'll be ready for a snack so I'll have another pint."
Four times a day, he'll pour a pint but getting drunk isn't on the agenda. "It's not a cavalier silly stunt thing. I'm genuinely curious about the monks and that kind of thing."

While he lives on 1,200 calories a day, a doctor's monitoring his health, a pastor's keeping him honest.
Wilson said, "I want to educate beer people about God, and I want to educate God people about beer."
