Born in New York, and raised in Miami, Ken Molestina is excited to be here in Washington, DC and back on the East Coast.
Prior to coming to WUSA 9, Ken was an anchor/reporter at KVIA-TV in El Paso, Texas.
There he focused on crime and public safety reporting. He's won an Emmy Award for his work on exposing underground sewer tunnels in El Paso which were being used by illegal immigrants and human smugglers to break into the U.S.
He was nominated for another Emmy for his reporting on the Barrio Azteca gang, a dangerous trans-national border gang that primarily operates along both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Ken is also the recipient of a 1st place award from the Associated Press in the "Breaking News" category.
He says one of the most impactful stories he ever covered was the execution of a Texas death row inmate. Ken conducted the last public interview the day before the execution and was a witness the execution the following afternoon.
Ken also has experience working as a first responder. He spent nearly 3 years working as a volunteer firefighter for the West Valley Fire Department in El Paso County, Texas.
Prior to his work in El Paso he worked at WUFT-TV and WRUF-AM radio in Gainesville, Florida. He is a proud graduate of the University of Florida and, as you would imagine, is a diehard Gator Fan.
In his time off from work you can catch him playing tourist throughout the Washington area.
