WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Monday's game is a sellout, meaning more than 41,000 fans flocked to Nationals Park. Most of them entered the stadium from the centerfield entrance and some will get a Nationals baseball cap.
Fans lined up for a shot at tickets hours before the gates opened. As soon as the gates opened, fans poured into the ballpark for an opening day filled with expectation.
"This year the target is on their back. People are going to be looking at them as a top contender," said one fan.
Another fan said, "I think we are going to win the World Series this year."
Yet another fan said he was cautiously optimistic, "I'm going to embrace it, put my big boy fan pants on and say 'let's go get it this year.'"
The guys on stilts at the centerfield entrance even had a prediction to share: "I feel a series coming on, or indigestion, I'm not sure."
