WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The Lerner family owns the majority of the Nationals team. Monday morning, we talked to brother and sister Mark and Marla Lerner about getting ready for Opening Day and the exciting future for the club.
Mark Lerner talked about the process of building the team that saw much success last season, "We start out to build it a certain way. My dad [Ted Lerner] he was determined to build it the right way and for the long-term. Last year was the first step of that."
Marla talked about the community element of the team. "This is a much anticipated season for the team on the field, but we are opening a Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Center. Another cornerstone program of the foundation is the Washington Nationals, in Ward 7 Fort Dupont Park. We are under construction there and will look forward to a fabulous opening in August, [we] start seeing the kids this fall."

We asked the Lerners about manager Davey Johnson, who said this season is going to be his last season. "He made this decision with his family. We respect that. We hate to lose him. Hopefully we finish it with a ring on his finger. He has been pretty strong out there about World Series or bust."
