WOODBINE, Md. (WUSA9/AP) - National Weather Service crews will inspect damage in Howard County and determine whether or not there was a tornado in the area on Monday. Howard County Fire officials say NWS crews will assess the damage at 10 a.m.
Howard County fire officials say that firefighters and paramedics went to the 3200 block of Starting Gate Court in Woodbine for the report of a structure collapse on Monday night. They found that a garage and shed were completely destroyed during strong winds. None of the three people who were at home were hurt, say officials.
Then, in the 5400 block of Weatherside Run in Columbia at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters found a tree had collapsed onto the roof of a home. The tree also damaged a back wall, say officials. Officials say the family inside was able to escape without injuries but because the home is unhabitable, the four family members had to find shelter at a friend's home.
In Delaware, homes in Newark and Glasgow were damaged and numerous trees were downed. A National Weather Service team may investigate as early as Tuesday whether a tornado struck in the Newark area.
