WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- We rely on them for directions, shopping, entertaining and more. 

Now research group Garner Incorporated says sales of apps for mobile phone games and programs are expected to reach $25 billion this year.

And, revenue from those sales is predicted to climb 62 percent worldwide.

So far, Apple and Google have more than 700,000 apps in their online stores.
