For her first primetime Sofia the First special, Princess Sofia is going under the sea to find adventure.
Jodi Benson, who voiced the underwater Princess Ariel in the 1989 animated movie The Little Mermaid, reprises her role in Sofia the First: The Floating Palace, a special that premieres on Disney Channel Nov. 24 (7 p.m. ET/PT). It airs on the preschool-centric home of the Sofia the Firstseries, Disney Junior, on Nov. 28 (7 p.m. ET/PT).
Sofia (Ariel Winter of Modern Family) is on a seafaring vacation with her royal parents when she meets a mermaid named Oona (Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka). Using her magical amulet, Sofia transforms herself into a mermaid, too, to explore down where it's wetter. Unfortunately, when Oona is captured by a sea monster and the mermaid nation is irked that her family's boat is parked in their cove, Sofia enlists the help of Ariel before she gets in too deep with her problems.
The cast of Sofia the First also includes Tim Gunn, Sara Ramirez and Wayne Brady.
Kids can meet Oona before the special on Nov. 15, when the Sofia the First: Mermaid Princess online game launches at DisneyJunior.com.
